Re: I am seeing this word or name, but cannot translate. Help?
Hi s3ab, the correct spelling must be "варщиков", which is the genitive singular of the noun "варщик". This word is quite rare, and it seems I personally have never heard the word before. According to https://ru.wiktionary.org/wiki/%D0%B2%D0%B0%D1%80%D1%89%D0%B8%D0%BA, "варщ...

Re: question about punctuation
Hi whitelighter, in Russian, as well as in English, there should be no space preceding a comma or a period. That is why Google Translate just works ridiculously for you. However, when I tried to translate an English sentence into Russian with Google Translate, the program didn't show any space befor...

Re: Hello! I am a writer with a question :)
Hi Cate, "солнышко" is a lovely hypocoristic form of addressing a person (usually a child). This form does not depend on the gender -- a person called "солнышко" may be a boy as well as a girl. "Солнышка" is the genitive singular of the noun "солнышко". So, in...

Re: tattoo phrase
Yes, the phrase 'Цени́ть жизнь' is different to 'Цени́ жизнь'. 'Ценить' is an infinitive while 'цени' is an imperative. That is why if we translate 'Ценить жизнь' into English, we get 'To appreciate life', which is not what you want your tatoo to mean. If you want the tatoo to remind you to be grate...

Re: tattoo phrase
Hi Alexandra,
I think the most appropriate translation of the phrase 'Appreciate life' into Russian is 'Цени жизнь'. This translation is literal, meaningful, and short.
I wish the coming year of 2016 would be great for you!

Re: why the 'em' ending in медведем ?
Hi, "медведь" is an animate masculine first declension noun ending in "ь" (see http://www.study-languages-online.com/russian-nouns-declension.html ). Thus, its prepositional case is "медведем". Moreover, as you can see in the link above, the instrumental case doesn't al...

Re: Do adjectives describing masculine accusative nouns have genitive endings?
Hi George, first of all, it would be better to translate the sentence "I see the man" as "Я вижу этого человека". The word "этого" emphasizes the specificity expressed by "the". This specificity may also be implied from the context, and therefore the translati...

Re: How to say "you are so ... that ..."
Hi Phozzonunnium, your translation is almost correct. To be correct altogether, it should've been "Ты так ой странный, что мне трудно поверить" or "Ты так ая странная, что мне трудно поверить". Expressions "so + an adjective" are translated as "такой / такая / тако...

Re: How say "It doesn't rain anymore"
Hello semsaudade, when facing problems in translation, it's a good idea to start with a sentence which is simple enough for you to translate. Following this scheme, let's begin with "It rains". This sentence means that rain comes down from time to time. The Russian sentence "Идёт дожд...
