Ok thanks then I will go that way.
I am from Hungary. I learned english before and I realized that russian is harder to learn than english but much easier for a hungarien than a native english speaker. E.g.:
- we have explicit letters for soft russian variants in our alphabet like "ty" for ть, "gy" for дь etc etc.
- grammar structures also easier to understand eg. in english "i like it" while russian says "a thing does pleasing me" where the verb belongs to the object and personal pronoun in dative. It is the same structure in hungarien.
- many more like these..., and also some funny identity which I dont know yet how come like: шапка in hungarien is sapka the pronounciation is absolutely the same or жир is zsir (where zs is a single letter in our alphabet sound same as ж) also exactly same pronounciation
How to pronounce -ого adjective ending
Re: How to pronounce -ого adjective ending
In the adjective ending "-ого" the letter г is always pronounced as в [v].
An unaccented о is pronounced as а [a].
That's all there is to it.
первого – [pjErvava]
второго – [ftarOva]
Or am I misunderstanding you question?
If you meant to ask how can you know if the accent is on the first о in -ого or somewhere else, then the answer is – you can't. You just have to memorize where the accent is in one or another word. Of course, the initial form gives you a clue
первый [pjErvyj] > первого – [pjErvava]
второй [ftarOj] > второго – [ftarOva]

Re: How to pronounce -ого adjective ending
Hi thank you, the vowel reduction rule helps a lot and also seems further justifying the previous assumption,
that is that there is a rule there :
All the adjectives ending in "ой" have the stress (accent) on the end and not on the stem. So if all the "ого" which stressed are pronounced as "ova" then also it is true that all adjectives ending is "ой" will be pronounced with "ova".
It also implies that all adjectives ending in "ый" shall take the ending "ava" as those have the stress on the stem.. How do you see is it consistent, or do you have another understanding?

This is a question for Lawless. I know that your rule is correct. Is this the Moscow dialect?
