Difference between прибра́ть and прибра́ться?

Why do we use this case here? And this verb? What rule should I use here?

Difference between прибра́ть and прибра́ться?

Postby MamaCaz » Mar 4th, 18, 12:49

I came across the sentence 'я прибралась в гостиной', and I was wondering why the reflexive ending is used here. Would the meaning be different if 'прибрала had been used instead?

Hi,
the meaning would be the same, there is no big difference between the two constructions. However you can say прибрать гостиную and прибрать в гостиной. But if you use the reflexive verb you can't use the direct object after that, you can only say прибраться В гостиной. Or you can use the reflexive verb without any object at all like Я прибралась. If you use the verb прибрать you usually use add an object, without it the sentence sounds unfinished and incomplete. I am not 100% sure that all of it absolutely right from the point of view of grammar books but it is how we use it in speech.
