I have this doubt and I hope someone could help me. I have this phrase:
Он был награждён медалью.

Is награждён a verb, or is it something else? What's the relation with the word награда?

i guess it's a verb in passive voice. yes, there's direct relation between the verb награждать and the noun награда. The verb is the derivative from this noun.
