words это / эти

Why do we use this case here? And this verb? What rule should I use here?

Здравствуйте!

Why is the word это sometimes singular and sometimes plural? How can I distinguish between
- это мои носки
- эти носки грязные
??

Спасибо и пока пока!

Hello.

Your 1st sentence means "These are my socks".
And the 2nd sentence means "These socks are dirty".
See the difference? But both "these are" and "these" means "это" in this case.

Let's take the word WINDOW (окно) because it must be easier to understand.
"This window" means "это окно". It's like there are thousands of windows but we're talking about EXACTLY THIS ONE.
"This is window" also mean "это окно". It's like we're saying: this is not a horse, not a butterfly, THIS IS A WINDOW.

I'm not really sure this information was helpful, well.. At least I tried.
Good luck and ask me more if you need to.
