Why is the dative case being used in this sentence?

Hi
So there is this sentence:
"Ты открыл мне глаза" - Why is the dative case being used (мне), if "мне глаза" is the direct object of the sentence?
Is this sentence even correct at all?
Shouldn't it be "Ты отркыл мои глаза"? In the accusative?
Thanks ! :D
