Re: МКАД

Не важно где кто-нибудь живет, вождение автомобиля опасно! Я живу на диком диком западе. Что лучше - за рулем или ездить? What is the best way to say wild, wild west in Russian? Что вы имеете в виду? "За рулём" и "ездить" - это одно и то же. Возможно, здесь нужно подобрать синон...

Re: Idioms Russian to English, English to Russian

What about "let's compare apples to apples not apples to oranges " Mostly I heard this from car salesmen when they are trying to sell me a car. Not quite contextual, but "Не сравнивай тёплое с мягким", "Don't compare the warm with the soft". "Not all is gold that ...

Re: МКАД

Minor mishaps are called a fender bender. They are also called dents, dings or scuffs. I see at least one major wreck daily, usually more. The most dramatic I've seen is a semi truck on fire. I could actually feel the heat in my car, several lanes away. There are more jams during the winter, touris...

Re: How would you say ''Tequila talks are your sober thoughts'' in Russian

That is great! I'm sure someone could get the word 'tequila' in it with some rearranging. There's one in English you may have heard of. "It's the alcohol talking." Doesn't mean the inebriated person is saying their sober thoughts. It usually means that the person is saying something uncha...

Re: How would you say ''Tequila talks are your sober thoughts'' in Russian

I'll take a shot at this (pun intended.) I'm going to assume that, "talks," is a plural noun meaning, like tequila conversations. So, "Текила переговоры - трезвые мысли." Another way is to think of talks as a verb and tequila is doing the talking. In that case, "Текила гово...

Re: МКАД

Actually after looking at a map, there are several highways that make an almost circle around the Phoenix metro. Never having looked at a map before, I never thought about it. I just got on whichever highway to get me where I needed to go. After having driven through many parts of the USA, the road...

Mashenka wrote:No, you're right it is both of them together. They encircle most of the metro, but because of urban sprawl , there us some metro outside the 101 and 202.

Basically, just like in Moscow. It used to mark a city limits half a century back, but now it's just a highway with a historical significance
