Why do we use this case here? And this verb? What rule should I use here?

City centre vs city

Postby hibbarda86 » Sep 1st, 17, 00:33

Hi

In the dialogue about the prepositional case, there is this sentence: Да, моя гостиница в центре города. However, город after a preposition is в городе, so why is it a not e in this sentence?

Thanks.

Приветствую,

в центре -- prepositional of центр
города -- genitive of город.

Compare with:
Да, моя гостиница в городе.
