difference between мыть and чистить

Postby machine_head » Apr 1st, 15, 14:09

Hi!
I would like to know what is the difference between the verbs мыть and чистить (to clean). I know that чистить is the one we use about teeth, like to brush your teeth, but I have seen it in other contexts, чистить плиту for example. I guess it doesn't mean to brush the stove, so I wonder if there is any difference in the meaning.
Thank you for your help!
